Johnnie Norton, an employee of C&W Services power washing the docks outside the Tampa convention center, drowned when he fell in the water






TAMPA, Fla. -- A 53-year-old female worker died on Monday after he fell in the water as he was power washing the dock near the Tampa Convention Center. He did not resurface, according to Tampa police.

Johnnie Norton, working for C&W Services, was rescued from the water and taken to Tampa General Hospital where he died.

The incident occurred about 11 a.m.

Tampa police and Fire Rescue divers arrived and it took them several minutes to find the Norton.

Witnesses said he was power washing the side of the dock when he fell. A passer-by saw Norton fall, jumped in but was unable to find him.

TAMPA, FLORIDA (FOX 13) - A female worker who fell into the channel next to the Tampa Convention Center was rescued Monday morning, but later succumbed to his injuries.

Tampa Fire Rescue says Johnnie Norton was pressure-washing the docks along the Riverwalk when he fell under and did not resurface.


Tampa police divers found Norton underwater and pulled him out. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital with what police described as life-threatening injuries, but later died.

Police say the 53-year-old was an employee of C&W Services, which had been subcontracted to pressure wash the docks outside the convention center.
