CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — UPDATE: The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation identified the victim as Hamilton County Corrections Deputy Daniel Hendrix at a news conference late Wednesday morning:
TBI spokesman Josh DeVine says this happened during a birthday party for Hendrix. He says for some reason, Hendrix's demeanor changed and he started acting belligerent toward two women at the party, who were off-duty Chattanooga Police officers.
The women managed to escape the home, and called 911. DeVine says officers who arrived on the scene got into a confrontation with Hendrix, and were forced to fire their weapons on him. DeVine says officers fired a total of four times, but it's unclear now whether Hendrix fired his weapon in the presence of officers.
Hendrix later died at the hospital. DeVine would not identify the officers involved in the incident.
Hendrix made headlines back in 2015 when video surfaced showing him roughly handling a female Hamilton County inmate. He was placed on leave, but his record was later expunged.
Police removed the crime scene tape from the scene at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Police are investigating an early morning shooting on on Wednesday in which officers fired a weapon on a suspect, who later died from his injuries. It was later discovered that the victim is a Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Corrections Deputy.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is now taking the lead in the investigation.
This happened in the 300 block of Shawnee Trail.
Chattanooga Police say just before 1:30 a.m., Hamilton County 911 received a call for a disorder with a weapon involved.
Hamilton County 911 also reported to CPD officers that one shot was fired before officers got to the scene.
Police say upon arrival CPD officers encountered two off duty CPD officers who had left the residence.
Other CPD officers encountered an armed suspect outside the home. Police say during that encounter, CPD officers were forced to shoot the armed suspect.
CPD officers started giving him first aid while waiting for the ambulance to arrive. The ambulance rushed the man to the hospital, where he later died.
CPD says officers later determined the unidentified suspect was a Hamilton County Sheriffs Office employee.
HCSO spokesman Matt Lea later in the morning confirmed the employee was in fact a corrections deputy who had been employed by Hamilton County since 2013. Authorities have not yet released the man's name.
Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond issued this statement:
“The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office would like to offer its condolences to the family of our Corrections Deputy and our prayers are with those involved in this unfortunate incident.
At this time, District Attorney Neal Pinkston has requested the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) to investigate the incident so the HCSO and the CPD may remain neutral.”
