A crash in Bear involving a car and a school bus affected Wednesday morning's commute, an official said.

The crash was reported about 6:55 a.m. at the intersection of Old Baltimore Pike and Salem Church Road, said Cpl. Jeffrey Hale, a spokesman with the Delaware State Police Department.

Ahmad J. Abdullah, 49, of Wilmington, was operating a 1999 Toyota Corolla eastbound on Old Baltimore Pike preparing to make a left-hand turn onto Salem Church Road, according to Hale. He failed to stop at the red traffic signal and collided with a 2013 International School bus traveling westbound on Old Baltimore Pike.

Both Abdulluh and John Ewasko, 55, the driver of the bus, were able to gain control of the vehicles and pull off onto the shoulder said Hale,

Abdullah, his 13-year-old passenger and Ewasko were treated on the scene by New Castle County Paramedics before being transported by ambulance to Christiana Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, said police. All 37 students from Newark Charter School were uninjured in the collision.

The roadway was closed for approximately one hour while being investigated and cleared, said police.
