Trucking company driver killed in workplace accident in Park Forest

A driver for an Alsip-based trucking carrier was killed Monday in Park Forest after a load of large water main pipes he was delivering spilled off his vehicle and struck him, a village spokesman said.
Another worker was unloading the pipes from the truck while the driver, identified as 24-year-old Milos Grujic, of Seattle, stood beside it, Park Forest spokesman Jason Miller said.
During the unloading process, the pipes became unsettled and fell off the truck and on top of the driver, crushing him, Miller said.
Grujic was rushed to Franciscan St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy performed by the Cook County Medical Examiner found that he died of multiple blunt force injuries. His death was ruled an accident.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has opened an investigation into the fatal incident.
Grujic's employer, Delta Carrier Group, has no prior OSHA violation history, OSHA spokeswoman Rhonda Burke said.
The company is a Park Forest subcontractor that had been hired by Austin Tyler Construction, an Elmwood-based company the village has contracted with to install miles of new water main around town, Miller said. The accident is not expected to delay the village's water infrastructure replacement project, he said.
By statute, OSHA has six months to conduct its investigation and issue findings, although it could report findings sooner, Burke said.
Grujic's death was the 36th worker death reported in Illinois this year.

CHICAGO (CBS) — The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has opened an investigation into an industrial accident that left a 24-year-old man dead Monday in south suburban Park Forest.
Milos Grujic, who was employed as a delivery driver by Delta Currier Group in Alsip, was killed when a load from a powered industrial truck became unstable and struck him, according to OSHA and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 200 block of 10th Avenue in Seattle, Washington.
He was standing next to his truck while another worker unloaded large water main pipes from it at a construction site, according to a statement from the Village of Park Forest. Several of the pipes fell off the truck and crushed him.
Grujic was pronounced dead at noon Monday at St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields, the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy Tuesday found that he died from multiple blunt force injuries, and his death was ruled an accident.
