Seaway Crude Oil Pipeline Release
October 24, 2016 –Seaway Crude Pipeline Company LLC has resumed service on the 30-inch diameter S -15 loop (twin) pipeline, which was shut down overnight as a safety precaution following a crude oil release on the parallel S
-1 legacy Seaway pipeline just before midnight last night. The incident resulted in no fire or injuries and there is no threat to the public.
Seaway personnel continue to make progress in cleaning up the spill, substantially all of which has been contained in a retention pond at Enbridge’s facility. Vacuum trucks are being used to recover the crude oil and return it to storage tanks onsite. The impacted segment of the legacy pipeline has a capacity of 50,000 barrels; however the actual amount of crude oil released will be significantly less and won’t be determined until recovery efforts are complete. The company has notified all appropriate regulatory a uthorities and is coordinating with officials on its clean-up plan and strategy to bring the line back into service as quickly and safely as possible.
Seaway Crude Pipeline Company LLC is 50/50 joint venture owned by affiliates of Enterprise Products Partners L.P. and Enbridge Inc. In addition to the pipeline that transports crude oil from Cushing to the Gulf Coast, the Seaway system is comprised of a terminal and distribution network originating in Texas City, Texas, which serves refineries locally and in the Houston area.
