WINK, Texas - (Local 2/Fox 24)

One person is dead after a Wink Volunteer Fire Dept. Truck was hit head on by a water hauler semi around 5pm.

We're told the fire truck was responding to a tank battery fire in Loving County.

The crash happened on State Hwy 302 near mile marker 208.

The Loving Co. Sheriff's Dept. confirms the driver of the fire truck was killed, the passenger and the driver of the semi-truck are being treated in Winkler Co. for injuries.  We'll keep you updated as we learn more.

HWY 302 -- UPDATE 10:59 P.M.

CBS 7 has confirmed that Coby Slaughter, a Wink Volunteer Firefighter has been killed in a crash on Hwy 302 and FM 1232, a source with knowledge of the information confirms.

The crash has caused traffic to halt on Hwy 302 and FM 1232 between Kermit and Mentone.

Sources close to CBS 7 confirm that two other firefighters were injured in the crash and were airlifted to the hospital. We can confirm that at least one has been released from the hospital at this time.

Witnesses say it was raining when the WVF vehicle crashed head on with an 18-wheeler.

Please avoid the area if possible.

LOVING COUNTY, TX (KWES) -

A Wink Volunteer firefighter died in an accident Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Loving County Sheriff Chris Busse, Colby Slaughter, 36, was killed in the accident.

Authorities said the Wink Volunteer Fire Department responded to a tank battery fire around 5 p.m. and the truck was traveling westbound on State Highway 302 with its lights and sirens on.

We're told a semi-water hauler decided to pass eastbound traffic and collided head-on with the fire truck.

Officials said the driver of the semi and a passenger in the fire truck had severe injuries and both were taken to the hospital.

There's no word yet on their conditions.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is now leading the investigation.
