LAKEHURST, NJ — A Lakehurst man was killed Sunday when a freight elevator came down on him at a restaurant in the borough, Police Chief Eric Higgins said.

Oscar Francisco Carranza-Lopez, 34, of Lakehurst died in the accident at Three B's Bar and Bistro on Route 70, Sunday morning, Higgins said Tuesday.

Carranza-Lopez, who was an employee of the restaurant, and another restaurant employee were moving a delivery of food to the basement of the restaurant when the elevator apparently malfunctioned and lowered on him, Higgins said.

Carranza-Lopez had one foot on the ground and one foot on the elevator at the time, and a bar at the top of the elevator came down on him, he said.

The federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration is investigating, Higgins said.
