BELL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A national park employee has died while working in Bell County.

Investigators say Forest Howard, 27, was mowing grass on Monday at Cumberland Gap National Historic Park when a van hit him on Pinnacle View Road.

Park leaders say Howard was a maintenance worker. Friends say he had compassion for others.

"Just absolutely loved life. He'd do anything to help you. It didn't matter what time of day it was. If he could help you, he'd help you. It's hard to find that caliber of a person," Bruce Thompson said.

Friends say Howard leaves behind a fiancée and two young children. Investigators say two people in the van were visiting the park. They are not sure what caused the crash.
