A house fire in Smithtown left three people seriously injured.
SMITHTOWN, Long Island (WABC) -- A house fire in Smithtown left three people seriously injured.
The fire broke out in the Sterling Lane home just after 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Two residents, a fire captain's wife and two children were injured. The fire captain was not home at the time.
They were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital.
Three firefighters also also being treated for minor injuries.

A mother and her two children were injured in a Smithtown house fire early Wednesday, fire officials said.
Five departments responded at 3:14 a.m. to a call for a fire on Sterling Lane, said a spokesman for Suffolk County’s department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services.
The spokesman had few details, including specific injuries to the three, but said the mother was taken to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown.
The two children were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, he said.
Jeff Bressler, a spokesman for the Smithtown Fire Department, told News 12 Long Island that a fire chief rescued one child and other firefighters rescued another child and their mother.
Bressler said the father is a volunteer with the Hauppauge Fire Department and was not home at the time of the fire.
The Smithtown, Hauppauge, Kings Park, St. James and Nesconset fire departments responded, fire officials said.
