Ten homes and two fire trucks are reported to have burned in a quick-moving fire near Timberon, a small community southeast of Alamogordo.

Otero County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Steve Odom says no injuries have been reported so far. The fire started on the outskirts of town and moved into Timberon.

The fire, which is burning near the golf course in the area, has claimed approximately 200 acres as of 9 p.m., according to Sgt. Odom, who said every structure in Timberon is threatened. Other structures have likely burned since the 10 homes were first reported around 6:30 p.m.

Evacuations have been ordered for Timberon residents. An evacuation site has been established in Cloudcroft at the high school. All Otero County resources are being allocated to evacuating the town, Undersheriff Lilly Schnell told KOB.

Timberon is located on the southern edge of the Lincoln National Forest in Otero County.

The Forest Service, Otero County and around a dozen other fire departments have responded.

NM 6563 is closed at the intersection of NM 130 because of the fire.

Livestock are being taken to the Alamogordo Fairgrounds. Call 575-491-4643 for arrangements.
