TOLEDO, Oh. (WNWO) — Fines have been sanctioned against a local museum following an incident that left an employee with severe injuries.

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined the Toledo Museum of Art $7,300 when an employee was hospitalized after following from an eight-foot scaffold.

$1,000 of the fine comes from the museum's failure to notify OSHA of the workplace incident, which is required by law. OSHA fined TMA $6,300 after it was found that employees working on the roof or on the HVAC systems were risking a fall of 19 feet after the museum failed to block off skylights.

A spokesperson for the Toledo Museum of Art offered this statement in regards to the fines:

We are dedicated to the continuous improvement of safety for all who work in and frequent the museum.
