NORRIDGEWOCK, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- One person is dead after a boating accident on the Kennebec River in Norridgewock.

Early this evening, police and game wardens responded to a possible drowning at a dock, and linked it to an accident down river.

Game wardens are not releasing much information and say they are in the very early stages of the investigation.

But they do say the drowning is connected to a motor boat crash on the Kennebec River between Norridgewock and Skowhegan.

Police and game wardens responded to a possible drowning near a boat launch on Ferry Road in Norridgewock at approximately 4 p.m. this evening.

Wardens immediately recovered the body from the river, which was close to the dock.

After further investigation, they found out it may be connected to a motor boat incident that occurred down river.

Wardens did not yet say whether speed played an issue, or if it was alcohol related, or even if the person was wearing a life jacket, but as the Fourth of July, a big boating holiday, nears, they caution the public to boat safely.

“Keep your speed down, have a life jacket for everybody. Anyone 10 years or younger needs to be wearing a life jacket. And obviously alcohol and boating make a dangerous combination. So really need to watch that while you're out boating, whether it's a passenger or an operator,” said Lieutenant Kevin Adam, a game warden.

An investigation is underway as to what exactly happened and police are working on releasing the name of the person who drowned. No one has been taken into custody for the death as of Thursday night.
