Posted: July 06, 2016 San Angelo firefighters extinguished a fire at a storage building at West 44th Street and Grape Creek Road on Wednesday afternoon.
No one was inside, and there were no injuries. Battalion Chief Ricky Long said the cause is under investigation.
The metal building, which serves as storage for G&G Construction & Remodeling, was ablaze when firefighters arrived about 1:50 p.m. They cut through locks on a fence and the building to get in and fight the flames, Long said.
Inside the 600-square-foot building were welding supplies, fuel containers and paint containers, Long said, leading first responders to wear respirators to avoid breathing in fumes.
The building itself did not appear heavily damaged from the outside, but its contents -- including a couple of motorcycles -- were destroyed.
Three engines, 16 firefighters, a heavy rescue unit and medical unit responded. Long said Engines 5 and 6 extinguished the blaze, and firefighters rotated working to avoid overheating.
