WINNEMUCCA, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Bureau of Land Management (BLM) officials confirm two firefighters died and one was injured in a crash at about 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Nevada BLM Chief of Communications Stephen Clutter said the single-vehicle crash happened while the firefighters were travelling in the southbound lane on Nevada State Route 140. He said they were returning from duty in the Denio area and were on their way back to Winnemucca when the crash happened.
Clutter said the Bureau of Land Management is withholding the names of the firefighter who died until their next of kin are notified. The injured firefighter was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno via CareFlight.
"We will provide more information at the appropriate time," Clutter said. "Our hearts are heavy, but our focus, our thoughts, our or prayers are with the families of these extraordinary brave people who served to protect the people of Nevada and the public lands of that belong to all of us."
The crash is currently under investigation.
NHP and local agencies will be escorting the two deceased firefighters from Winnemucca to Reno Monday, said Stewart.

FIRE APPARATUS CRASH KILLS TWO BLM FIREFIGHTERS IN NEVADA

A crash on Highway 140, north of Winnemucca, Nevada has claimed the life of two firefighters and has sent a third to the hospital. The crash happened on Highway 140.
According to the Bureau of Land Management, it was a single- vehicle crash but its cause is currently under investigation. One report is that a tire may have blown out.
The Firefighters who were killed in the Line of Duty, and the one who was injured, all work for the Bureau of Land Management.
The injured firefighter was flown to Renown Regional Medical Center, where the condition is currently unknown.
The Nevada BLM released a statement early this morning, saying the names of the deceased firefighters is being withheld until next of kin is notified.
