Worker on Loop 101 critically injured when hit by car in AZ

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - A man is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car while working to reopen a highway closed for construction early Monday.

All lanes of the Loop 101 southbound were closed at 90th Street following the accident. They reopened about 6:30 a.m.

Investigators with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a crew with a construction barricade company was removing the barricades to reopen the southbound lanes following a construction closure. Shortly before 3 a.m., one of the workers was hit by a black Chrysler near the HOV lane.

He was taken to the hospital and is reported in critical condition.

There was no word on the driver's condition. The Arizona Department of Transportation advised commuters to avoid area during the initial response.
