The woman driving a car that was involved in a collision with a Crossville Fire Department fire engine has been charged with driving under the influence, according to the investigating officer’s report.
The crash occurred at 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of West Ave. and Fourth St. and involved a 2006 KME fire department pumper truck and a 2010 Honda Accord, according to Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Jacob Groce’s report.
The fire engine was driven by Timothy Johnson, 51, Crossville, who along with other firefighters was operating the emergency vehicle with lights and siren to a report of smoke in the building of Dairy Queen off N. Main St.
The Honda, driven by Donielle Roysden, 29, also of Crossville, was traveling north on West Ave. and entered the intersection in front of the fire truck with the impact sending the vehicle in a spin and into the front door of the Nail Society building. The car came to rest on the business’ front steps and on top of a fire hydrant.
Roysden was taken to Cumberland Medical Center by ambulance for treatment of her injuries. She was later cited by Groce with DUI.
None of the firefighters in the engine were injured in the crash. Groce stated the crash continues to be under investigation.
