One person was taken to hospital Saturday afternoon after being exposed to a chlorine spill at the pool of a local sports club, fire officials say.

Just after 2:30 p.m., firefighters got a 911 call about an equipment malfunction at 176 Cameron Ave., home of the Ottawa Tennis and Lawn Bowling Club.

The caller said there'd been a chemical spill in a small building near the club's pool, and that the area had been evacuated, Ottawa Fire Services said in a release.

Firefighters arrived at the club and discovered that an employee had been exposed to the chlorine. The employee was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A notice on the club's website Sunday said the pool would be "closed until further notice."
