WALL TOWNSHIP — A Passaic woman was killed early Saturday morning after the Jeep she was riding in crashed into a tree off the Garden State Parkway, state police said.

Gudelia Espinosa-Reyes, 45, was riding in the front passenger seat of a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Mariano Cabrera Rosagel, 46, of Passaic, northbound on the Garden State Parkway, Sgt. First Class Gregory Williams said.

At 1:41 a.m., Rosagel lost control of the SUV near the 94.4-mile marker, swerving and crashing into a tree in a wooded area, Williams said.

Cabrera Rosagel, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

Espinosa-Reyes suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, Williams said.

The right two lanes of the northbound parkway were closed for three hours following the crash. It remains under investigation, Williams said.
