SAN ANTONIO — Police are investigating a crash on the West Side involving at least three vehicles, one of which flipped into a utility pole and another that barreled through a concrete wall into a house.

The crash occurred at NW 24th and West Martin Streets near a Easy Stop gas station. Authorities were called out around 2:20 p.m. At least one ambulance left the scene with lights and sirens running, but police have not yet released information on injuries.

SAPD Officer Raul Tijerina said a man driving a green SUV was headed west in the 4200 block of West Martin Street when he barreled into two vehicles in the intersection.

His vehicle flipped onto its side and caught fire, while one of the other cars struck a utility pole, and the other rolled through a gas station parking lot and crashed through a concrete wall and into a home.

Tijerina said the driver investigators believed caused the crash climbed out of the window of his vehicle and walked away from the accident. Police are still searching for him in the area.

Jason Bernal was driving just ahead of a green SUV that police say caused the crash. Bernal said he passed through the intersection and saw the collision behind him.

"I barely missed this accident," he said. "I was right in front of all of these vehicles. I thank the Lord for helping me out. I was very lucky."

Bernal stopped after he saw the crash and ran up to the wreckage to check on the drivers.

He said he had to help pull a woman out of a silver Toyota, and assist the woman who's car barreled through a wall a short distance down the road after the crash.

More than a dozen fire and police units are on-scene. More details will be added to this developing story as they become available
