COAST GUARD RESPONDS TO PLATFORM FIRE IN BAYOU SORREL


NEW ORLEANS, LA –


The Coast Guard is responding to a report of an oil production platform fire near Bayou Sorrel, Tuesday.

Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Baton Rouge was notified at 9:15 a.m., that an oil production platform in Bayou Sorrel caught fire while in the process of being dismantled. One storage tank is currently on fire.


Personnel from Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Baton Rouge, Coast Guard Sector New Orleans, and the Gulf Strike Team are en-route along with local and state responders.

There were two people aboard the platform at the time of the explosion. There were no reported injuries.

The platform holds a maximum potential of 420,000 gallons of crude oil.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
