A school bus driver hit an electric construction sign that the worker was setting up and injured the worker

SOUTH BEND, INDIANA

Police say a school bus crash injured a construction worker at Bendix Drive and Lathrop Street -- that's just east of the South Bend International Airport.


More from WSBT.com This happened just after 6 a.m. According to a WSBT 22 photographer on scene, police say the bus hit an electric construction sign that the worker was setting up.

The sign -- which was not lit at the time - hit the worker, who was taken to the hospital with "serious injuries," according to police. We're told he is expected to survive and has abrasions and possibly some broken ribs.

The road was expected to fully reopen by 8:30 a.m.

A spokesperson with the school corporation confirmed to WSBT that this is a South Bend bus. Officials are on scene now investigating.

Numerous accidents are occurring at or near construction sites.  This is a huge problem and the drivers are to blame.  Slow down folks, give the road workers a break.   As the old saying goes, "in deaf man's door you can knock as many times as you want".
