JEROME, Id. (KMVT-KSVT) Jerome County law enforcement officials are trying to piece together what caused a small plane to crash into a corn field in Jerome County
It happened on the north side of 100 South just off of Highway 93.
The pilot, who Jerome County Sheriff Doug McFall identified as Kelly Fairbanks, is badly injured and had to be taken to a local hospital.
Sheriff McFall tells Idaho’s First News that Fairbanks is awake and responding to questions, but is seriously injured.
Life-flight out of Boise was called to the area, but at this time it is not officially known where Fairbanks was taken.
Fairbanks reportedly took off from the Jerome airport and crashed a short time later.
A crop duster flying in the area witness the crash and informed officials from the Jerome County Airport, who contacted law enforcement.
It's not clear at this time what caused the plane to crash. We’ll have more information as it becomes available.

The aircraft impacted cornfield terrain southeast of Jerome County Airport (KJER), Jerome, Idaho. The airplane sustained unreported damage and the sole pilot onboard received undetermined injuries.
