Two people were killed in a motorcycle crash Sunday morning in Laurel, Maryland.

Prince George’s County police said the double fatal crash occurred in the 11500 block of Laurel-Bowie Road, also known as Maryland Route 197. The location is near the intersection of Route 197 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.

Baltimore County officials said one of the victims was a fire lieutenant with the county fire department. Hubert Harrison Jr., 63, had completed his shift as a fire dispatcher in Towson and was apparently heading home to Bowie when the collision occurred.

"This is a terrible loss for the fire department and an even greater tragedy for Lt. Harrison's family," said Fire Chief John Hohman. "We offer heartfelt condolences to his wife and loved ones, and will offer all the support we can in the difficult days ahead."

The other motorcyclist has been identfied as Fahad Iqbal, 23, of Laurel. Investigators said one motorcycle was traveling northbound and the other was traveling southbound. For reason not yet known, Iqbal crossed the center line on a slight curve and struck Harrison head on. Both victims were pronounced dead on the scene.
