Victoria County, Texas

A 29-year-old Texas Department of Transportation worker was injured Thursday when he slipped and was caught by an asphalt machine in rural Victoria County.

The accident occurred about 4 p.m. near the intersection of Dodd Road and Farm-to-Market Road 444 South.

The worker, whose name was not verified, was driving a roller machine that was packing asphalt. Because of the slick tar in the high temperature, the machine, which was being operated in reverse, slid and rolled onto its left side, causing the worker to be injured, said Trooper Ruben San Miguel.

The worker suffered a foot and leg injury and was taken to Citizens Medical Center.
