A local man suffered serious injuries after being run over by a box truck Saturday evening, police said.
Crews responded around 5 p.m. to the U.S. Postal Service Southern Connecticut Processing & Distribution Center, 24 Research Parkway, for a report of a person who had been run over by a truck.
Lt. Rick Homestead said the investigation determined that a 2007 International 4000 series box truck, operated by Joseph Gallo, 46, of West Haven, was backing up to one of the loading docks when the truck struck Glenn Ford, 52, a postal employee who was walking in the parking lot.
Ford fell to the pavement and was subsequently run over across his midsection by the back tires of the truck. He was not pinned under the vehicle and was found lying alongside it when officers arrived, Homestead said.
Ford was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital by ambulance, Homestead said. The nature of his condition was unknown Sunday morning.
Yale-New Haven Hospital would not release details of Ford’s condition Monday.
The truck is registered to FMP Transport LLC of East Haven, a contractor for the U.S. Postal Service.
A representative from U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) also responded and will be conducting a separate investigation.
No charges have been filed as of Sunday, Homestead said.
