Houston's Deputy Constable critically injured after hit by car while writing a traffic ticket

A Deputy Constable was hospitalized after being struck by an oncoming driver
A Precinct 4 deputy constable was airlifted to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle, deputies confirm to Eyewitness News.

It happened just before 9:30pm last night on Cypresswood at Kuykendahl.

The Deputy Constable was writing a traffic ticket on Kuykendahl when another driver first hit the back of his patrol car and then hit him. The impact of the crash knocked the deputy into oncoming traffic. He was flown to the hospital.

The deputy was later identified as Sgt. Jeremy Talbert. He's been with Harris County Central District Patrol for 6 years.

Talbert is in critical condition, but Constable Mark Herman tells Eyewitness News that it appears Talbert "is going to be okay."

"I just got back from (Memorial) Hermann. He is going to be okay. The people there said he did not have any kind of brain injuries but he is going to have to undergo surgery to the back of his head due to the gash in the back of his head," said Herman.

There is no word on the other driver's condition either. An investigation is underway.
