Police say an ATV accident on Sunshine Road in Rachel involved alcohol.
The accident occurred between a vehicle and an ATV at approximately 2:57 p.m. Friday. Deputy Daniel Lawson from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department said the driver of the car was a 16-year-old girl whose name would not be released.
Lawson said the girl said she was driving down Sunshine Road and moved over to miss a pothole. She said she then saw a man on an ATV, and their vehicles collided.
The driver of the ATV was Timothy Jenkins, 39, of the Mannington area, according to the sheriff’s department.
Lawson said the girl said the ATV was in the middle of the road, but Jenkins said she was in the middle of the road and “he didn’t move out in time not to collide with her.”
According to Lawson, “the ATV driver flipped over the handle bars and hit his head off a guardrail on the bridge,” and he was not wearing a helmet.
Jenkins also suffered severe lacerations to the front of his face.
Lawson said Jenkins was taken to Fairmont Regional Medical Center, where they advised he needed to go to Ruby Memorial Hospital with trauma on his neck and spinal area.
According to Lawson, Jenkins had “had some alcohol prior to the accident.”
