Worker injured in crane accident in Miramar, police say

Construction worker injured on Miramar Parkway in crane accident
A worker was critically injured in a construction accident involving a crane on Miramar Parkway on Saturday afternoon, police said.
The man was airlifted to an area hospital, according to Miramar police spokeswoman Tania Rues.
The accident happened about 2 p.m. on the overpass portion of Miramar Parkway that extends over Interstate 75, she said.
The crane was situated along the eastbound lanes of the road. It was not immediately known how the worker was hurt. Most of the time the crane drops objects or hits workers with the objects that is moving around.
Traffic was delayed along Miramar Parkway and I-75 exit and entrance ramps onto the roadway were momentarily shut down, Rues said.
Motorists should expect delays in the area while police investigate the incident.
The overpass is under construction to ease congestion in southwest Broward and to accommodate a wider I-75 underneath with express lanes and more turn lanes on Miramar Parkway. It is set for completion in late 2016.
