MANNINGTON TWP., NEW JERSEY

A township man is in critical condition after losing control and being thrown from an all-terrain vehicle which he was operating with three children on board, state police said.

Troopers from the Woodstown Station were called to the Battiato farm on Quaker Neck Road for the report of an ATV accident around 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, according to Sgt. Jeff Flynn.

Flynn said Frank Battiato, 45, was operating an ATV on his property and lost control of the vehicle.

The ATV overturned and Battiato was ejected, Flynn said.

Thrown from the vehicle, too, were three children who were Battiato's passengers, police said.

Battiato was taken by ambulance to The Memorial Hospital of Salem County and then airlifted to Cooper Medical Center, Camden, where he was listed in critical, but stable condition on Wednesday.

Flynn said the three children, whose ages and identities were not available, were taken to Memorial Hospital, treated for minor injuries and released.
