SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

A wildfire in California’s Napa County continued to grow Thursday, threatening hundreds of homes and other structures, state officials say.

The fire burning at the southern tip of Lake Berryessa has grown to more than 10.5 square miles, authorities said.

But some people who have evacuated are being told they can return to their homes. State fire spokeswoman Amy Head said late Thursday that evacuations have been canceled for about 50 of the 200 or so homes.

Head says the fire’s threat has diminished substantially in some areas and the fire did not grow much Thursday.

Meanwhile, another fast-moving fire has forced the closure of Highway 50 in both directions near Kyburz, about 30 miles east of Placerville. The fire started Thursday around 2 p.m. PT.

The Kyburz fire has grown to 100 acres according to inciweb.

Wragg Fire started Wednesday along Highway 128 near Wragg Canyon. Overnight, the flames spread into treacherous terrain.

About 1,300 firefighters from around the state were battling the fire, which was 15% contained as of 2:30 p.m.
