VICKSBURG, Mich. (WOOD) —
A man fell backward to his death while working on an elevated platform at a Vicksburg business.
It happened around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at H&H Farms, located at 14093 Portage Road. State investigators were called to the scene to conduct an investigation.
Kalamazoo County sheriff’s investigators say it appears the man was doing a job-related task on the elevated platform when he fell head-first some 25 feet to the ground.
Sheriff’s officials did not release details about what, if any, safety measures were in place to prevent a fall.
“Every indication is that this is an accident,” Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller said.
The case marks the third workplace death that has made news in West Michigan in about a week.
On July 7, a woman was killed after getting caught in robotic machinery at a plant in Ionia.
The next day, a man fell to his death at a Walker packaging company. The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) is investigating all three cases.
There have been 17 work-related deaths in Michigan this year, state records show. There were 27 in all of 2015.
