Police ID woman killed after crash on Chippenham Parkway
Virginia State Police have identified the woman who was killed after running her vehicle off Chippenham Parkway and into a tree Friday morning.
Emergency crews from Richmond and Chesterfield responded to the scene at 7:40 a.m. on the northbound side of Chippenham Parkway near Jahnke Road.
State troopers told 8News reporter Evanne Armour that two vehicles were involved in the crash.
“It was a horrific impact,” said Trooper Mark Ingram.
Ingram said the victim’s car sideswiped another vehicle in the left lane before crossing over three lanes and slamming into a tree.
The driver of the vehicle that was sideswiped stopped to talk with police about what she witnessed just before the deadly wreck.
“She saw a white vehicle come up at a high rate of speed in the center lane. Ultimately struck her vehicle in the passenger side and that’s what caused the deceased’s vehicle to lose control and travel off the right side of the highway and into the trees,” said Ingram.
Friday afternoon, Virginia State Police identified the victim as 62-year-old Dianna G. Hunley of North Chesterfield. Police say she was wearing a seatbelt and that speed factored into the crash, which remains under investigation.
Nobody else was injured.
VDOT says the right lane and right shoulder were closed as crews worked to clear the scene, creating a miles-long backup. The northbound off ramp to Chippenham from Midlothian Turnpike was partially blocked as well. All lanes have since reopened.
