Elderly Driver Crashes His Car Through Marblehead, Mass. Real Estate Office

  Jim Armstrong
MARBLEHEAD, MASS. (CBS) —

A car crashed into a Marblehead real estate office filled with workers Wednesday afternoon.

The elderly driver drove deep into the Coldwell Banker real estate office, but the employees inside had fortunately just moved to a meeting in the back of the building moments before the crash.

No injuries were reported in the crash that occurred at about 2:30 p.m. on Atlantic Avenue.

“We heard a crash and the building shook a little bit,” Realtor Meg Andrews said. “You think the worst when something like that happens. I didn’t know what it was but it was scary.”

The elderly occupants in the car were checked out at the scene but refused to go to a hospital.

Authorities evacuated the second floor of the building as a precaution after the crash.

Police said the driver and office workers are all cooperating as they investigate the crash.

Elderly drivers cause many accidents.  We need to force drivers to take driving refresher courses every 5 years or more often.  Drivers must also be tested for eye-sight, hearing, drugs, etc.  Many thousands of deaths and hundreds of thousands of injuries would be prevented if we do so.  Please remember that a vehicle is a lethal weapon and only a regularly-trained, capable and fit person should operate it.
