A semi-truck rolled down a 30-foot embankment and burst into flames off Interstate 5 in Tukwila, badly injuring the driver.

The semi became engulfed in flames after it crashed off northbound I-5 near the Southcenter exit at about 2:15 a.m. Friday.

The driver of the semi was rescued, but troopers say the flames made contact with the man, who is in serious condition.

Troopers said it appears the 36-year-old driver fell asleep at the wheel.
At one point, only the HOV lane was open. All lanes reopened at about 5:30 a.m.
In an effort to minimize the impact on the morning commute, the wreckage of the semi will be recovered at a later time, but lanes will have to be closed during the recovery
