A worker was injured Wednesday when a Tadano Rough Terrain crane toppled over at a construction site in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
Sky 10 was above the site off Pines Boulevard, where the crane fell onto the roof of an apartment building under construction.
Firefighters
said the crane operator was loading roof trusses when the crane somehow
tipped over. A man jumped out of the way and injured his ankle. He was
treated at Memorial Regional Hospital and released.
Workers said the operator wasn't injured, and there was no damage to the crane or the construction site.
Signs on the fence surrounding the site indicate that Suffolk was the construction company.
The crane, a 59 tonne Tadano TR650XXL, owned by Sims Crane, was lifting a
stack of roofing sheets with its full five section 125 foot main boom
fully extended along with a 30 feet swingaway extension in place and
offset.
The crane looks to have been well set up with outriggers fully extended and down with decent sized mats under the pads. There is also no sign of the ground giving way or a structural issue, this seems to be simply a case of overload, i.e., a clear operator error.
