CHEVY CHASE, MD.

A mother and child are dead after being shocked by electricity in a flooded area of their Montgomery County home.

Montgomery County Fire Department spokesman Pete Piringer says the woman, Crystal Leigh Puderbaugh, 29, and child, Lily Elizabeth Puderbaugh, 4 , were taken to a hospital. He later tweeted that both the adult and child were electrocuted.

They were found unresponsive outside the home in the stairwell leading to the basement. They were taken to a trauma center where they died.

According to a released statement, at about 4:26 p.m., Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel responded to a residence in the 8800 block of Connecticut Avenue near Jones Bridge Road for a report of an electrocution.

Investigators found a portable sump pump in the standing water near the victims. Detectives are looking at the possibility that the water was charged and an electrical surge contributed to the victims’ deaths.

Many areas of Montgomery County experienced flooding due to the heavy rain fall throughout the day.

This incident remains under investigation, however, no foul-play is suspected at this time, the statement reads.
