SUGAR CITY, ID
Thursday at 10:06 am, Madison Fire Department responded to a
semi truck rollover near 5000 North and 1000 East, along the County Line Road,
near Sugar City.
The truck carried 3,000 gallons of Ammonium Thiosulfate, a
liquid fertilizer being transported by Helena Chemical Company out of Sugar
City, Idaho.
Approximately 700 gallons spilled out of the tank before the spill
was contained.
The semi truck rolled over after the right front tire left
the asphalt and sunk into the soft dirt of the right shoulder. Those involved
with the incident were treated and released at the scene.
Nine Madison Fire Department personnel were on scene for
five hours involved in the decontamination of exposed individuals and cleanup
of the scene. The fire department was assisted by the Madison County Sheriff’s
Office and Idaho State Police.
“The incident was resolved with no threat to life and only
minimal damage to property,” said Corey Child, fire chief of Madison Fire
Department. “The department is appreciative of the cooperation of Helena
Chemical Company in the remediation efforts.”
Crews cleared the scene at 2:51 pm.
