A 23-year-old North Bergen man has died after losing control
of his motorcycle and crashing into a parked tractor trailer in Jersey
City last night, police confirmed.
The man, whose name has not yet been released by
authorities, was in critical condition when he was taken to Jersey City Medical
Center- Barnabas Health last night, where he underwent surgery, hospital
spokesman Mark Rabson said.
According to an accident report, a witness told police
he saw the accident from the parking lot of Mana Contemporary at 888 Newark
Ave. and said the motorcyclist was traveling east at "a high
rate of speed" when he ran into the rear of a tractor trailer parked on
Newark Avenue.
He also said the man fell off his bike and landed in the
westbound lane of traffic, police said. Another witness provided a similar
account of the accident.
EMS who arrived at the scene found the man unconscious
with an open chest injury, an "amputated right elbow" and a right
pelvis injury, according to the report.
Witnesses pointed out to police the area where the man lost
control of his motorcycle in the eastbound lane, which "displayed an
extremely uneven pavement and resembled an area where possibly previous
construction was completed," the report stated.
The truck is registered to a company in California,
according to the accident report. Upon further investigation, no summonses were
issued, police said.
This young man obviously had a death wish and was playing Russian
roulette by high speed traveling in a very densely populated area. He reached his final destination. Hopefully other young people will learn from
this tragedy and avoid these crazy stunts, if they want to live.
