The man whom divers found after searching for about 30 minutes late Sunday in waters off Southeast 16th Street has died, according to a news release.

The man, identified Monday as Anthony Brown, 46, of Coral Springs, fell into the water about 8:45 p.m. He was later pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, said Fort Lauderdale police Sgt. DeAnna Greenlaw.

Divers found a man who fell off a boat Sunday night near the Boathouse of Fort Lauderdale on Southeast 16th Street.

Relatives estimated that they last saw him about 10 minutes before calling 911, but had lost track of him, Fort Lauderdale Fire-Rescue officials said.

Divers were on the scene and in the water approximately 10 minutes after the call, authorities said.

About 9:35 p.m., divers found Brown about 150 feet west of where he was last seen. He was quickly taken out of the water and taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was initially listed in critical condition late Sunday.

The man's family told rescuers that the boat became disabled as they tried to bring it to the 15th Street boat ramp. The boat drifted to the south side of the canal, and the man was attempting to get it back to the north side when he slipped and fell.

Police are investigating the incident, but do not suspect foul play, Greenlaw said in the release.
