A man was electrocuted in Prairieville Louisiana yesterday
after he came into contact with overhead power lines while working from a
vehicle mounted aerial work platform. installing
cablevision and internet lines along Old Jefferson Highway in Ascension Parish
Thursday.
The accident happened around 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 42.

A spokeswoman for COX Cable says the man, employed by
CableWorks, was working as a contract employee for COX at the time.
"We are very saddened to learn of this and our thoughts and prayers are with his family," said COX Public Affairs Manager Sharon Souther Bethea. "We are working with our contractor and law enforcement officials to determine what happened."
Prairieville Fire Deputy Chief Ray Poche' said 38-year-old Courtney Jones of Yazoo, Mississippi, was stringing new cable in an area that has heavy vegetation when he came in contact with the power line.
"He was facing away from the power line that he hit so he never saw it," Poche' said.
It took the emergency services some time to bring the platform down

Jones was around 30 feet up in the air when the incident
occurred, rescue services had to wait some time to de-energize the power lines
and ensure they were safe, before being able to bring him down. He was declared
dead at the scene.
