2 HURT IN CRASH OF PIPER PLANE NEAR RANGER, CAUSE SOUGHT

Authorities say one person has been hurt when a small airplane (a Piper PA-28-161 Warrior) crashed during a flight from Abilene to Stephenville.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the single-engine plane was near Ranger on Monday night when the aircraft went off radar. Radio contact was also lost.

The FAA says the pilot used a cellphone to report that the Piper, also carrying a passenger, had crashed near Ranger. That's about 75 miles southwest of Fort Worth.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says one person on board suffered a broken arm.  Officials did not immediately say whether the injured person was the pilot or the passenger.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.

Narrative:
The aircraft impacted terrain southeast of Ranger Municipal Airport (F23), Ranger, Texas. The airplane sustained substantial damage and one of two occupants onboard was seriously injured. One occupant onboard the aircraft received minor injuries.
