FULLERTON, CALIFORNIA

At least one person was killed in a multi-vehicle crash that shut down several lanes on the 57 Freeway in Fullerton on Wednesday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported around 7:08 p.m., according to the Fullerton Fire Department.

A driver of a big rig that was hauling a forklift lost control of the truck after blowing a tire in the southbound lanes, according to CHP Officer Florentino Olivera.

The truck swerved and struck a car before crashing through the center divider, Olivera said.

The impact dislodged the forklift, sending it into the air. Both the truck and the forklift landed in northbound lanes, aerial video from the scene showed.

The truck’s cab then spun around and collided head-on with a white Honda Accord. The driver of the Honda, identified only as a male, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Olivera.

Five other people were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Aerial video showed a large portion of the freeway covered in debris and damaged vehicles.

A freeway sign also appeared to have been torn down in the collision.
There was no indication when the entire freeway would reopen.
