WORKER CRITICALLY INJURED FALLS 31 FEET FROM SCAFFOLDING. WHAT HAPPENED TO FALL PROTECTION?

MARCH 31, 2015

VERONA, WISCONSIN (WKOW)

A worker at a construction site on the Epic Systems Corp. campus in Verona suffered critical injuries after a fall Tuesday morning.

Verona Fire Chief Joseph Giver says the man was on some sort of scaffolding, working on Epic's new library building under construction on Northern Lights Road, when he fell approximately 30-40 feet onto a lower roof area.

The man then called 911 on his cellphone, which caused a bit of confusion in locating him, Giver said.

Giver said the fire department's ladder was requested to help rescue the man, as it was believed it might be difficult to reach him in the construction area. But he fell onto a roof section that was near a window, which crews were able to use to get him out of the area.

Giver said the man suffered significant injuries but they were not believed to be life threatening.

Giver says the man landed near a window, which they were able to get through to the ground level.

He was then transported by Fitchrona EMS to the hospital.

What happened to the fall protection?  The employer will be in some serious trouble over this terrible tragedy.
