HALL COUNTY, GEORGIA

Authorities are on the scene of a fatal accident in Hall County.

A woman was killed following a collision with a dump truck Wednesday afternoon in South Hall, according to Georgia State Patrol.

She was pulling out of the Black Walnut Grove subdivision in a Honda SUV onto Poplar Springs Road when the truck hit the driver’s side at an angle, according to the state patrol.

The crash happened just after 2 p.m. at the intersection of Poplar Springs Road and Wofford Road.

Aerial footage showed a dump truck collided with an SUV and both had been driven off of the road.

The driver of the SUV was killed, authorities said.

Dump truck driver Lawrence Swikard, 49, of Gainesville was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville where he was in satisfactory condition Wednesday afternoon, according to hospital officials.

Sgt. G.R. Harper of the state patrol reported that the woman was turning left from Circassian Place, the roadway leading into the subdivision, when the dump truck’s tire malfunctioned and the driver lost control.

Nearby residents said they heard a loud noise that shook their houses.

Neighbor Gail Godfrey complained that dump trucks drive too fast on the road.
“We are fearful when we pull out of the subdivision or when we pull into it that we’ll get hit,” she said.

Information about charges wasn’t immediately available.
