Troopers believe a medical episode may have contributed to a
fatal accident along I-20.
It happened Wednesday evening around 5 p.m.
The Georgia State Patrol says an episode related to diabetes
may have caused 47-year-old Raymond Scott Bearden's involvement in two separate
accidents, including one that killed an 8-month-old.
The agency say the first accident was a hit-and-run in the
westbound lanes of I-20. The second involved several cars stopped on the
Liberty Road exit ramp.
An incident report says Bearden's Chevrolet Cruze struck
34-year-old Natasha Strobridge's Toyota Camry as it was stopped on the ramp,
causing a chain reaction crash.
Troopers say Bearden was traveling at highway speeds at the
time of the second crash. The report listed the posted speed limit at 70 miles
per hour.
Strobridge and the 8-month-old Langston Strobridge were
taken to Tanner Medical Center where the child died. The hospital says the
mother was released later the day of the accident.
The second child, 12-year-old Deniya Strobridge, is in
serious condition at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.
No charges have been filed, but the Georgia State Patrol
says Bearden could face a charge of vehicle homicide second degree.
The case remains under investigation.
