AMHERST, OHIO

All eastbound lanes of the Ohio Turnpike were closed for hours Wednesday after a fiery crash in Erie County.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred shortly before Noon near milepost 136.

A 2013 Ford F-250 pulling a trailer failed to stop before ramming into the back of a 2015 Peterbilt semi hauling Jeep vehicles.

After impact, the Ford pick-up caught fire. Flames spread to the semi trailer, destroying five Jeep Wranglers.

The driver of the pick-up, 52-year-old Cary E. Politoski, of Prairie Du Chien, Wisc., freed himself from his vehicle before it was engulfed by flames. He was transported to Mercy Medical Hospital in Amherst, Ohio with minor injuries.  Officials say he is expected to be charged after allegedly failing to slow down approaching a construction zone at the time of the crash.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

Troopers say the incident shut down all eastbound traffic at the crash site for about three hours. All traffic was rerouted at US 250.
