A construction worker was injured Thursday when he fell into
a 30-foot hole while on the job in the area of 16th Street and Fashion Avenue.
Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel dispatched to
the scene at about 10:46AM to find that a 39-year-old man who was working on a
construction site below grade had fallen more than 30 feet into the hole when
he slipped off a scaffolding, said LBFD spokesperson Jake Heflin.
About 17 firefighters began using a crane at about 11:13AM
to extricate the man and lift him out of the hole. The man was transported to a
local trauma center in moderate condition at about 11:20AM, Heflin said.
