SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH

Nine firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation after a two-alarm blaze broke out in their west Salt Lake City station house.

Salt Lake City Fire Department spokesman Jasen Asay said two captains discovered the fire at 1:27 a.m.  It was believed to have begun in a second-floor utility room of Station 2, located at 270 W. 300 North.

The captains alerted their seven sleeping fire crew members. Together, they escaped the flames, moved a fire engine and truck from the station bay, and then began fighting the fire as additional crews were dispatched to the scene from other stations.

All nine members of Station 2's crew were taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, but no serious injuries were reported.

Investigators are trying to determine what caused the blaze, which left the second floor of the building with heavy damage.
