FATAL TRAIN ACCIDENT INVOLVING PEDESTRIAN SHUTS DOWN AMTRAK SERVICE IN DAVIS, CALIFORNIA

MARCH 10, 2015

DAVIS, CALIFORNIA

UPDATE 7:30 A.M: Officials said the tracks and service reopened but there is still a speed restriction.

EARLIER: Yolo County officials confirmed Tuesday morning that they received a call from Amtrak saying a train had hit a pedestrian and that the pedestrian had died. The incident caused a partial shutdown of the Amtrak service in Davis.

The accident happened along the railroad tracks near Davis; an incident which Amtrak said shut down Capitol Corridor train service between Sacramento and Davis, according to California Highway Patrol spokesperson Richard Wetzel.

Wetzel said the investigation and subsequent shutdown of the train service impacted local Amtrak commuters to and from the East Bay. System-wide delays were expected.

Suicide by train? Drunk and/or dragged? Who knows?
