Sixteen firefighters were injured battling a four-alarm inferno that spread through four townhouses in Staten Island on Monday, an FDNY spokesman said.

Firefighters have brought a blaze that ripped through a community of fully-attached townhouses in Rossville Monday evening under control.

While most of the injuries were minor, one firefighter's condition was deemed serious, but he was expected to survive.
The blaze broke out at 134 Hampton, then spread to three other homes before it was brought under control at 6:10 p.m.

One-hundred and seventy firefighters were on the scene, and 40 units.
